Rainbow Guardians Chapter 5

 Chapter 5: Lessons, Lessons…

The moon was hanging on the heavens, ornamenting the night like a silver necklace. It was in the last crescent phase and was heralding another month on the earth. It was dawn; the sun was about to rise. I woke up and stared at the clock. It showed 06.00 A.M. As if anticipating my awakening, Pineapple was lying at my bedside. I grabbed her water and food bowls, refreshing them, since I decided to feed her in my room rather than the cafeteria.

While my kitty was eating, I prepared myself and went outside the dorm. I headed towards the forest to visit Alyra. She was having a morning bath in the pond. Her feathers had amethyst shimmers in the twilight. She shook herself when I arrived there.

“Hi, Aly. Where are your friends?” I greeted her.

She neighed quite mutely, approaching me. I extended my hand to her; however, she reacted quite unusually. Her wings shielded her as if I was a threat.

"What's the matter, girl? Did I leave you in the wild for too long?"

I gazed into her eyes deeply for an answer, and she gradually closed her shield. She came to me, nuzzling my face. It seemed I left her alone for too long. To remind her of our bond, I picked some moss on the water's surface. I offered her the herb. Alyra began to eat it. With my other hand, I caressed her.

'What's on today's schedule?' I asked myself. 'Yes. Core Alchemy with Mr Lextrum and History with Mistress Persephone. Oh, there is also the first exam of Construction I with Mrs Lorelei in two weeks.’ Time really was passing fast. The fall of Starland still felt like yesterday to me. Also, I hadn't had the chance to contact my family. What was poor Lily doing? How were Danie, mum, and dad? Was Doctor able to escape like me? Most importantly, how were my people? There were endless questions like these on my mind. There wasn't any news from the Harmonial Council either.

The sun finally displayed itself from the mountains of the Rainbow dimension. It was almost time for breakfast; the first lesson should start at 08.30 A.M. I gave Alyra one last pat and headed towards the cafeteria. Every day I was running in this cycle of routines. I had to be stuck inside this campus because of 'safety.' I really disliked being royalty sometimes. It was just a title which was given by the council of Starland.

Nevertheless, it didn't mean I wasn't a girl; I was only a teenager. All I ever wanted was to have good people around me, a life with fewer boundaries, and to find myself.

My train of thought broke with the call of lessons from the voice amplifier: “All the students, the lessons are about to begin. Have a good day!”

I went to Mr Lextrum's classroom. Anny, Julia, Shanya, and Neesha were at the front desks, looking in my direction. I sat beside Anny and greeted each of them. A few minutes later, Mr Lextrum came. The professor had a tired face today. His violet hair waved along with his alchemy smock, and the safety goggles on his head collected his bangs like a cacti field.

“Alright, everybody. Today we will continue with the chemical structure of elemental barriers.”

Then, he began to draw six types of shields: Prismatic, compressed gas, magmatic, wood, psychic, and void.

“Well, prismatic types are made out of crystal interior with liquid light core energy exterior. The crystal species are usually chosen among the quartzes, diamonds, sapphires or rubies. According to the intensity level of the shield, your protection method’s skeleton changes. For instance, the level one type is made out of quartz. Levels two and three usually have rubies, and sapphires, whereas the last phase has diamond support."

He demonstrated this info on the hologram board and wrote the formulas of each matter. Later, he described other types of protection. Compressed gas had a cloud form; its levels were changing the intensity and opacity. Magmatic was quite similar to the prismatic one; it had fluid outside and hardened lava inside with tiny gaps. These gaps allowed the fluids to occur. The density was causing it to become a volcanic rock. The wood, on the other hand, happened with the aid of wet branches. These things surrounded the person like ivies. This was the same barrier Shanya used when she was trying to defend us from Helena! The higher levels were achieved by adding thorns and more vegetation to it like cacti, acidic plants, etc. Neesha’s element was all about invisibility. Her barriers were made out of magnetic fields of the brain. To increase security, she had to activate her whole body’s magnetic field via intense focus. The void was probably the most interesting one. As the name suggested, it was made out of emptiness. However, this void was like a whirlpool. To raise its influence, a black hole was added. 'Alex had this type too.' I thought and grimaced.

Professor’s voice brought me back to reality.

“Miss Starland, could you show an example of your element?” he inquired.

“O-of course, Mr Lextrum," I replied, activating my charm and fusion weapon. My core energy glowed on my chest and the gun-wrapped swirls around my right arm. I took one of my hair clips and slid it around my ear, forming a thought transmitter. I inhaled deeply and imagined a prismatic shield, bending my arm. Faceted protection appeared in front of me. It was semi-transparent and multi-coloured. Suddenly, Mr Lextrum blasted an attack at me. I instantly levelled up my defence, and it bounced off. Professor called his energy back.

“A wonderful illustration, Nelly,” he said and clapped his hands.

Anny and Julia rose up against their heads from their desks. They had drıfted into their daydream realm. Neesha and Shanya practised their defences along with the rest of the class. The bell rang while our instructor was about to choose another student.

“Ugh, finally! I was about to pass out.” Anny said, posing dramatically.

"Come on, Anny. It was quite intriguing, actually," Neesha responded.

“Yeah. I actually used my fusion weapon normally once," I added.

"If there is no place for me, then I don't care about anything," Julia said smugly but added. "I know I have to learn, too."

“Yeah, it should be,” I replied, poking her nose. “You fire head.”

All the other girls began to laugh with me. Julia pouted at first but joined us. She was definitely a character I have always encountered in my life. She reminded me of my big sister Daniella Isabella Starland; however, she was the overprotective and vain type, unlike Julia. She was more egotistical and self-centred than my sister and a bit more furious than Danie. I realised how much I missed my bossy, big sister. Her constant warnings, directions, and siding with my mum… I felt a sharp pain in my back as if I had been stabbed. So this was the sensation of loneliness. I shed hot tears into my glass heart. I gulped and tried to smile. At least I had friends by my side alongside the Almighty himself.

Beep. Beep.

I headed towards my computer and drew the oak tree symbol of my clan on the screen. It was the call I had been waiting for weeks. I clicked on it and saw the president’s face.

“Mistress Persephone, with one consent we approved your meeting request with the council. The date is the next weekend, 22 October Saturday in the Earth Palace. Please bring Princess Starland and other princesses with your committee.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon. The Harmonial Council President, Prof. Dr Minerva Akilah.”
